"The Thread of Life blanket, made by PENDLETON, is representative of the Classic Period in Navajo weaving from 1804-1880. The Chief's Blanket, a striped pattern favored, especially, by Plains Indian Chiefs, emerged during this time. Alternating stripes with diamonds, triangles or zigzag lines and wavy bands such as those seen in the Thread of Life Blanket were common. Narrow bands alternate with wider ones creating hrizontal movement. Larger bands on either end serve as a frame for the work."
