CANTE TENZA: STONGHEART WARRIOR SOCIETY

Check out this 6 minute movie about the Strongheart Warrior Society made by Cante Tenza member Moses Brings Plenty. Aho! Hou!
Cante Tenza: Strongheart Warrior Society of the Lakota Oyate is an ancient warrior society that includes famous Lakota such as Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, Crow Dog, and many others. Cante Tenza was formed to defend the people and all living things, and still does so today. The current leader or Headsman of Cante Tenza is Canupa Gluha Mani or Duane Martin Sr. and its spiritual leader is Leonard Crow Dog.

Cante Tenza is a tireless advocate for the people leading numerous protests and actions to defend the oyate from the US Government, greedy corporations, and the pollution of Mother Earth. The group holds an annual Civil Rights Powwow on Pine Ridge which is widely attended. Recent actions include the ongoing efforts to shut down alcohol sales in White Clay, Nebraska - a small town that sits just outside Pine Ridge and provides much of the genocidal pollution of alcohol that flows into Pine Ridge. Cante Tenza has also worked to defend Elders and Oyate from drug dealers and bootleggers in some of the small Lakota towns such as Evergreen and Kyle. One of the most effective warrior societies on Turtle Island, Cante Tenza also travels outside of Lakota to assist Indigenous groups and individuals with civil rights protests, provide inspiration for reclaiming traditional culture and assisting with large demonstrations such as the AIM protest of Columbus Day in Denver 2007. Cante Tenza has also held the space for the Lakota Oyate in the developing Lakota Freedom movement.

Four Directions Network works closely with Cante Tenza (FDN Coordinator Ana Oya Ametz is an adopted member of Cante Tenza) to support the liberation of the Lakota people and the protection of Elders, children and all oyate for today and future generations.
