Care

The signs are there. This hurricane season looks to be a difficult one. The Native American communities of southern Louisiana haven't recovered from last year, much less the results of 300 years of colonization. The land which has been home for hundreds of years is being replaced by water.

If you care about indigenous people, about their culture, about justice and freedom, then you need to come to Louisiana and make a difference. Especially if you come from an indigenous community, you know some of the challenges these tribes are facing. Perhaps you are a warrior, a healer, an activist, an artist, or just someone who cares. You are needed in Louisiana.

For many communities, grassroots donations and volunteers continue to be the only consistent assistance. But not all the organizations believe in preserving traditional culture, or fighting for dignity and respect. And if you believe in those things, please consider joining our effort.

At this time we need the following:

We have expenses at the Four Directions Free Store, organizing emergency preparedness materials, our Community Empowerment Project, and have organic gardening resources for hundreds of people to collect and distribute. Please help.

Volunteers with experience in indigenous communities or who are willing to work in solidarity are urgently needed. If you are a person of indigenous heritage, we offer a special invitation to join us. Skilled people - trades-people, contractors, builders, roofers, framers, and project organizers are especially needed but anyone with the sincere desire to help will find work to do.
